I haven?t posted on here before so I don?t know how the threads work, sorry if this isn?t in the right place or anything. When I first started loaning my gelding last september I rode him out with my friend and her mare (who?s kept on a different yard) weekly and they were perfectly fine. Recently though he?s been a bit difficult ? If I put him next to her he?ll go on the grass verge or rush ahead to get away. He?s barged past her resulting in her trying to bite him and him trying to kick her. Last week after a long time of not riding them together we hacked them out down a bridlepath. As soon as we were off the road he was acting jumpy and eventually cantered up a hill from walk and tried to canter down the other side as well. When we were walking along a track he went from walk to canter and bucked me almost out the saddle. Even after we?d split up to go home he was on edge and we ended up in the middle of the road between a van and a cyclist (he?d never behave like this normally). I assume he?s just excited because he doesn?t pin his ears or act aggressive towards her and I don?t usually ride him with another horse but he wasn?t always like this with her. We want to go back to riding together as its getting into spring but he?s such a handful with her that its not a very appealing thought. He is the first horse I?ve owned/loaned so if this is obvious or a common sense thing I apologise, I don?t have a great deal of experience (and sorry for the big chunk of writing) 😂
