Buying horse - will need expert to assess please!

Hi there, my friend and I are planning to buy a horse - well she is, and I'll be sharing it with her. We are looking at local places but really like the look of horses a bit further afield too.. I will put my hands right up and say I am not experienced enough to be making that decision ... I can ride probably at an intermediate level I guess and have owned horses, but we really would like an 'expert' to have a look at a horse either before or with us as I'm sure they can see a lot of stuff that we might not be able to. Now we're all sorted for an expert for local, but how do I go about finding someone for further afield? Sorry if this is a bit of a numpty question by the way but if you don't ask you don't know!
