Well, not been a week yet..Found out some good points, and some not such good points, but nothing horrendously not good! He's good to catch, chilled in his stable, stands still to be tacked up, knows to stand at the mounting block, good in front and behind out on a ride, does solo hacks, doesn't mind open spaces (no getting silly/fizzy!) ploughs on through the very muddy gateways in the woods, lovely smooth responsive comfy ride. He popped over a log without any fuss.Points we're working on;- He had clearly never seen coloured jumps of any degree, so the first few poles on the floor were seriously spooky! Warranted a massive sideways leap (which had me halfway out the side door!) We are now at the stage where poles are worth a look, but not worth the reaction. In fact, once the poles are in a X formation, it's positively fun! He likes jumping!! Haven't yet brainwashed him with more than 2 well spaced out poles, so trotting pole exercises are on the agenda. As are the SJ fillers. We've managed to go past them, giving them a look though! He is also a little concerned when you put your leg forward to check and do up the girth. I put this down to the fact he's previously been ridden in a western saddle, so assuming, once it's on, it's on and there is no need to faff about doing the girth?? Due to this, I got off deliberately the wrong side... he doesn't like that either. Its minor really, as generally we don't do that, but it's kinda good to know and something to work on, desensitizing him. I've been bouncing up and down on his off side when grooming him!! lolSo, all in all, it's lovely.
