I was wondering whether anybody could give me some thoughts on whether a kineton noseband might be suitable for my horse? It?s not a piece of tack I?ve used at all before. The horse in question is one of those strong but sensitive types. He doesn?t really like any bit that I?ve tried him in and mostly we go around in a hackamore. This is fine for pretty much everything and he seems very happy in this but for very exciting occasions, such as fun rides, we just don?t quite have enough control in it. So for these sorts of things I tend to use a bit but this is where it gets more complicated. As I said, he?s not a big fan of the bit and will chomp and snatch and lean like nobody?s business once he gets wound up. If he decides he wants to go he will then put his head down and set against me and there?s not a lot I can do. This is clearly not ideal for a variety of reasons.I think the reason he doesn?t like the bit is because he has a big tongue and fat lips so not much room in his mouth. Of everything I?ve tried he seems to go best in a Bombers Happy Tongue or a Myler Comfort Snaffle. He doesn?t seem to like bits with lozenges at all, and when we tried a waterford he just leaned on that like it was any other bit. We have mostly only gone in snaffles so obviously other cheekpieces are still an option. So I was thinking of trying the happy tongue with different cheeks to see if that helped me get his head up and have a bit more control while keeping him comfortable in his mouth. I just have this feeling though that it won?t really make any difference. So I was doing a bit of reading up on different options and came across the idea of the kineton. I can?t quite tell though whether it?s suitable for a horse that puts its head down or is better for one that lifts its head.I gather that the kineton is one of those things that either really works or really does not so I know it would be trial and error, as with anything really. But I was hoping maybe somebody who has experience of these types of noseband could give me a hint as to whether it might be worth giving it a go or not.Obviously I?m also happy to hear any other suggestions of bits or cheeks that might help. Or if anybody has any idea of a bitless option that could be good that would great. Not really sure where I?d go form a hackamore though?
