Is it really progress.........

When there are so many ads offering lame drug-dependant old faithfuls for loan or sale, instead of them being humanely euthanised at the natural end to their lives? When many horses are denied the opportunity for a good gallop or hack and are made go round in an arena every time they are ridden?When a lot of horses don't get enough excersise (especially this time of year) so are fed calmers, or are branded 'dangerous' or are sold on as 'wasted in present home'?When people seem to have lost all sense of 'the eye of the master' and technology in the form of rug monitors, weighbridges, saddles that monitor your SJ round and tell you why you knocked a fence, etc. has taken over?When people are scared to let a keen rider with no horse get ability and knowledge by letting them help out at yards? When 'You cant, you might fall off and sue me' is the answer to the kids who ask if they could 'have a ride on your horse please?When people are so scared to fall off they blame back, teeth, saddle, anything they can think of, rather than accepting 'if you ride you fall' - in my day the saying was 'it takes 7 falls to make a rider' and you just got back up proud of a few bruises?I know I am showing my age by posting this but it really seems 'progress' isn't progress at all at times.What has happened to common sense in the horse world today?
