And she's a bit of a handful.I've recently bought a lovely cob mare. She was marketed as a happy hacker and perfect mother daughter share but very green and lazy in the school.I tried her out and she was foot perfect out hacking, lovely to work around and as advertised, lazy and very green and a tad nappy in the arena. Also quite strong/hard in the mouth - didn't do anything wrong but I got the feeling that if she did tank off you'd have a hell of a job stopping her either with your seat or hand - not that she seemed likely to do this. I also managed to reach out to a previous owner via her passport details who confirmed she was, from her experience, just as advertised. She's settled in well to my yard - great in the field, easy to work with in the stable - you could literally climb under her belly and she wouldn't flinch! She is however pretty strong when leading - doesn't respect your personal space and tends to shoulder you out of the way and cut in front of you and you have to wrestle with her a bit to steady her - I'm hoping it's just settling in nerves but I suspect she's been allowed to throw her weight around a bit so going to get a pressure halter and have started doing some in-hand work.I was told by her owner that she doesn't lunge and that's what she told the vet at the vetting - apparently she just stands still however I took her to lunge her the other night and it was like the wall of death - firstly, she turns her bum in and kicks out a few times and then she just tanks round and stopping her is tricky - I basically had to wait for her to run out of steam. The tack she came with is awful so I'm waiting for the saddle fitter to come out but that is going to be another month or so. I'd planned to walk her out in hand to start getting her fit but given how strong she is, I don't know that would be safe.I'm looking for some suggestions on what - if anything else I can do with her in the meantime. I'll keep on with the lunging in the hope that she settles down, I don't trust her to long line as I'm not very good at it and I don't want to risk getting kicked in the face.
