Apple AirPods are the latest tech product that can allegedly explode

Another tech product, another explosive allegation.
Except this time it's not a phone. A man from Tampa, Florida claims one of his Apple AirPods blew up while he was at the gym.

According to WFLA (http://wfla.com/2018/02/08/tampa-man-says-apple-airpods-blew-up/), Jason Colon was listening to dance music at an LA Fitness when the right side of the wireless earphones started emitting white smoke.*
Colon decided to leave it on a piece of workout equipment and seek help, but when he returned, the earphone apparently was good as gone.
