Litter and pollution: It’s one minute to midnight for Saudi Arabia

* I am writing with regard to the article \"For a safe environment\" (May 12) which describes how divers volunteered to clean the beach in Jeddah. I can only support these actions as a diver and as a resident of Jeddah. But without a widespread public campaign to increase environmental awareness and to change negative behavior, such as littering and public pollution,* these actions are worthless. Anyone who sees the waste in the streets, the litter thrown by members of the public and the plastic bags destroying the environment k**ws that it is one minute to midnight for Saudi Arabia and Jeddah.* We are offending our Creator on an unprecedented scale.
