Present yard has really struggled with the rain this year, (I know, most of us have), the gateways are beyond funny and everything is a horrendous struggle. I'm not in the first flush of youth and I'm sure most of you will know about my recent accident. The yard is 25 minutes away, of which 15 is round country lanes. The basic livery cost is £25 pw each which I appreciate is cheap, but the fields are all wrecked so I've no idea when they will be able to go out full time, so my winter costs are going to carry on for quite a while. Currently it's costing me £28 for YO to turn out or bring in every day, £15 in bedding and £22 in hay. So added together is £115 pw, although daughter does pay her pony's livery, which helps. There is off road riding from the yard but bridleways are a little limited, plus lots of quiet lanes to ride round, but that depends of the time of day as to how quiet they are. Fellow liveries are all wonderful, amazing bunch and were great when I had to ask for help. Cons are we aren't allowed to put hay out in the fields or set up a track system and as I have a laminitic pony and both are barefoot, I've used this system with great success each spring. Future yard is about the same distance, in the same direction, and has an amazing school, which present yard does not as they had to stop work when the rain came in August. Access is a lot easier as yard is on a bigger road. There is off road riding directly from yard and access to Dartmoor. Track livery which includes 5 days of YO caring for them, also includes all hay, twice daily checks, feeding, poo picking and the track is stoned so no mud. Cost is £51 each and it would mean them both being out 24/7 which I'm not sure about in the winter for the older one. It would mean I could pick up some more hours at work which they are desperate for me to do, and I would only "have" to go over twice a week although I'd go more and could actually ride them for a change. The biggest con for this place is that the livery price is the same all year, whereas the present yard will drop to £25 pw once they are out 24/7, but goodness only knows when that will be. Future yard also holds clinics and all sorts of different people come there. Obviously I've no idea on the liveries tho.It will also mean that I will have to uproot them and they have been there since August, although at least I wouldn't have to worry about them there. I also bought two full sets of stable mats which I won't need, but I guess I could sell them.
