The U.S. central bank's federal funds rate, a longstanding monetary policy primary tool, has its role in the policy mix but may **t be as dominant in the future, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta president Dennis Lockhart said on Tuesday. \"The mix of tools is under consideration, and the Fed funds rate I think has a role, but it may **t be as dominant as it was in the past,\" he told reporters after giving a speech on the U.S. eco**mic and policy outlook in the Saudi capital. He added that the Fed will probably use a mix of policy tools to influence short term rates in the future. Dallas Fed chief Richard Fisher suggested last week that the central bank could replace its federal funds rate in the years ahead, adding other tools have been tested.
