Feeling demoralised 😟

Hoping for some words of wisdom or a boot up the bum! Horse (6yo cob) started acting out of character before Christmas. He was tense, rushing and occasionally arching his back. Gave him a couple of weeks off and tried again, same thing. Got osteo out who found loads of sore bits and a swelling on his hip. Reckoned he might have taken a bad slip/fall in field as they are horrendous right now. Gave him a week off and followed her rehab advice re in hand walking/stretching then finishing with short ride. Did that the other day, fine. Today started well, then he really tensed up and arched his back once then was fine again. Total 15 minutes walk under saddle. Is it possible he is remembering discomfort? Does he need ridden through it? Does he need further investigation? Feeling quite down about it. I?ve had him since he was 20 months and whilst he?s always been a very forward and cheeky horse this is new 😟 sorry it?s so long!
