Bit of background. I have a young daughter, work full time in a pretty demanding job and 2 years ago when my daughter was very young I sold my amazing horse of a lifetime because I was struggling to juggle family/work & horse. I was in a crap yard and couldn?t get a space at any of the good yards so I had no facilities albeit it was cheap. I lost my mojo and just gave up. I had a whole year away from horses and I enjoyed the break and the extra money but I got a bit bored and felt I was missing out on me time. I was lucky to get the chance to ride some friends horses then took on a share horse which I enjoy but it?s not the same. Anyway, I stumbled upon a lovely week horse completely by accident but I?m still not 100% if she fits my needs. So, in terms of what I?d be looking for - - something safe and sensible that is happy going for a couple of weeks being ridden and doesn?t get fizzy - something my young dd can ride on and be around - something that hacks out on its own and company and is not phased by any traffic - something I can do a bit of schooling on - nothing advanced but in the winter months I still want to be able to ride so ability to do some basic schooling - nothing beyond prelim type level. I just like having something to work away with and make steady progress. So the horse in question- Pros - She is amazing to hack - nothing bothers her and she loves it. Will hack out alone all day and is keen but not fizzy or silly. - she?s the sort that can have a month off and I?d neither up nor down -she?s great around kids and had been regularly ridden by kids. - she?s still young and has low mileage and is well priced - I?ve managed to gather a lot of info on her history having spoken to previous owner -she apparently free schools and lunges well Cons - she?s never really been properly schooled and is damn stubborn and lazy in the arena. She will try and nap to the gate and is dead to the leg and a bit hard in the mouth but wont buck or rear etc she?ll just ignore you. - vaccinations are about a year out of date - she was kept at field with only the owners retired Pony for company - her saddle doesn?t fit and teeth need done On one hand, the fact that she?s so safe and genuine is a big plus but I?m slightly worried that she?ll be so lazy in the school that i don?t achieve anything but I am willing to work on it with the help of an instructor and I?m happy to go right back to basics and slowly work away at it as I enjoy schooling just for the sake of it. I?m also realistic that I?m still going to be somewhat limited in my free time so my ambitions need to be kept in check. Argh help!!! Some honest advice welcome!
