Haj balloting under govt scheme cancelled

ISLAMABAD: Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony on Friday cancelled Haj balloting after consulting legal experts and new balloting dates would be announced after the decision of the Supreme Court.According to spokesman, the ministry has decided to challenge Sindh High Court?s order of stopping Haj balloting in Supreme Court of Pakistan. It merits mentioning here that the Sindh High Court (Sukkur Bench) had directed the ministry to avoid conducting Haj balloting till January 31. While Lahore High Court had also ordered the ministry to stop conducting balloting of 17 percent quota of government Haj Scheme. The petitioner had submitted that under Haj Policy 2018 private Haj Group Organisers (HGs) had not been given fair share as 67 per cent of the total Haj quota had been reserved for government Haj scheme.
