My new horse has been with me know for seven months. I have known him all his life and he has always been good to hack out and a kind horse to ride. Sadly his last hime kept him all on his own for a few years. He is now showing odd behaviour. Today in the middle of the hack he heard some dogs barking in the distance and completely changed . He grew several hand and stormed of in the direction of home. I pushed him on but no matter what I did it was like he mind was completely somewhere else. I was so wound up I could feel his heart beating. I ended up getting off and leading him which probably wasn't a good idea as he dragged me most of the way home. I did get quite cross with him at one point but I don't even think he realise I was there. After cooling off he went out in his field with his field buddies but rang around looking really unsettled. Later on a friend brought him in and said he was really hard to catch and really bad to lead. I have just checked on him and he is acting really odd not eating just standing in his stable looking zonned out. He has done this a few times with me but each time after a few days he has gone back to his normal self.We are starting to think there is a connection with one of the supplements we have been giving him Boswellia but I cannot find any reports on this causing such erratic behaviour. He is 16 years old I have been wondering about getting him tested for cushings as I understand this could cause this type of behaviour. It is so random I just cannot see what causes it. Any suggestions. Thanks - one worried new mum
