A friend of mine bought a pony last May from a friend of hers. Purchase was a bit of pity buy as said pony was pretty much abandoned in a half flooded field when previous owners daughter lost interest and she was able to buy him at a modest price due to his lack of work and thier limited knowledge of him. Pony was purchased with the intention of selling on once he was back in full work and doing well as is 14.2 and owner is tall and more suited to riding horses. Fast forward to today, owner has 3 horses including pony and is keen to move pony on, after advertising for several months and recieving numerous unsuitable enquiries pony is still here and looking like is impossible to sell. He is a 13yo ex-BSJA scopy 148 pony, so is forward going and sensitive but will plod along nicely and looks after owner who is a 63yo capable lady. Since being with us he has done, SJ, XC, HT, fun rides and hunting proving to be a safe and capable all-rounder. Hack alone, in company, good in traffic and not spooky- though will occassionally look at the odd thing, has excellent brakes. Has completed Cirencester Park funride as well as numerous others, jumping all the big fences and is never strong or silly, but is sometimes upset by other horses galloping past which he shows by prancing on the spot. He has never bucked, kicked or reared and has fantastic manners on the ground. Good to load and travel. Conformation is solid and sound, really robust little guy. Has hunted with Curre and Llangibby & Llangenior this season he will stand perfectly at the meet, is well behaved with the hounds and is nimble across all country, not strong. He is a machine XC, we hunter trialled him over Autumn and he was never out of the top 5 placings. He has competed up to Discovery BSJA in previous home. Is a forward going straight mover who works in a natural outline with lateral work and changes (someone has put some work in at some point) HOWEVER he can be nervous and it took some time for him to settle when we had him initially. He was head shy and sometimes a challenge to catch, however now he is settled neither of these things are an issue and he comes to call from the field and can be handled all over. He is terrified of a stick and unable to be ridden with one. He is good to shoe but requires a patient farrier as in line with his stick fear he is cautious of anyone who is holding long objects. He has a sarcoid above his one eye (flat sort, does not grow or bother him) and he requires sedation to clip - we have fully clipped him this year. So basically, he is a forward going, competition ride who has a number of quirks that are likely to put lots of people off. BSJA-wise I think he has done so much it has blown his brains and much prefers a varied life, so not fair to him to sell him back to that life, though he will pop round SJ nicely. He is too small for most adults to consider, but too tricky for a child and anyone who is experianced enough to find his quirks easy to manage wouldn't be interested as non-quirky alternatives are available! I think he would make a fab grassroots eventer/hunter for a gutsy competitive teenager, but he has no record and is over the hill as far as age is concerned, and again, quirks with clipping/whips/patient farrier&vet needed would likely put any parent off even if teenager is sold. Price-wise she is very realistic and much more concerned about finding the right person than making any money so would be a cheap horse for someone capable wanting to be competitive. But, do you think he is sellable AT ALL? Or is he destined to be the small ginger 'spare horse' forever?
