I've just moved Mr B into a DB and tbh am a bit amazed at how much more rideable he is. He's always had a bit of a tendency to try to hang on to the bit particularly on the right, run through the bridle and get strong and the contact is sometimes not as secure as I would like. He's quite a big strong horse, rather bossy and he likes to try to take over and when he's not polite in the contact I can struggle a bit. Having said that we are riding at Adv med and I've been getting some really lovely work from him, just not as consistent as I'd like. The DB has made a huge difference and although I've not ridden in one before, it's not as tricky as I thought it would be and he's more consistently through which means I am even starting to find it a lot easier to sit to his trot. He has been ridden in a DB before although not for quite a long time but he accepted it immediately.I wouldn't for one minute suggest a DB is a quick fix for poor riding but he respects the bits to the extent I hardly need to touch the weymouth and i have a softer, rounder more engaged horse. I'm just feeling really excited about 2018 as think we could make a lot more progress.
