On Saturday Monty and I babysat a very nervous friend out on a hack. She's been having a few issues with her Sec D being a bit cheeky (nothing major just a lack of work and high spirits) and as she has her own little yard has no-one to ride with to give her some encouragement. When I arrived, she was having a bit of a meltdown and said she didn't want to get on, didn't want to ride etc. Before I knew it I was legging her up onto Monty and working out how to get on a hogged horse when there's no mane to hold onto! I'm slightly on the big side for him (over the 15% but under the 20) at the moment (but working on it) and I figured it was only for 10 minutes until she could see him behave (he did) and we could swap back, which we did (even past the killer goat) and had a lovely hack. Oh, those 10 minutes were bliss! I've not sat on a Welshie since I lost my old by 13 years ago. The second my bum hit the saddle I felt so at home, it was like being back on Eb again. There's just something about the way they walk, you instantly know you're on a D. I know I'll be in the market for a new horse in the next two or three years as A & M are both 22 now and as much as I adore my two big boys, I now know the next one has to be a Welshie. It's no good, the dark side has found me again and it's got me in its snare :eek:Now all I have to do is lose the 3 stone I need to ride one for more than 10 minutes - 8lbs down since New Year's Day and counting!
