NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Sunday stressed the need for improving policing in the Punjab province to avoid Kasur-like incidents in future.
He was speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the office-bearers of the Nowshera Press Club here and later addressing the Paracha community members at the ASC Colony, who were led by Nasir Jamal Paracha.
The chief minister said that his party had been advising the Punjab government for the last four years to put an end to political interference in the Police Department. "If the police remain politcised, such brutal incidents would continue to happen, which could become a source of embarrassment for the government," he added.
Pervez Khattak believed that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police was a role model for the rest of the provinces to follow, adding that a foolproof system of governance was a must for development and prosperity.
The chief minister said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led KP government had rehabilitated the dysfunctional institutions in the province and transformed these institutions into public-friendly entities.
He asked the critics in the media to compare his government's performance with the previous governments before making, what he thought, irrational comments on governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. "The critics must make the previous corrupt rulers, who had constructed buildings but destroyed institutions by using them for their personal gains, accountable before the public," he remarked.
Pervez Khattak said the PTI had not sought votes for development schemes as development schemes was the responsibility of every government, adding that the real issue was reforming the system. "The PTI was voted into power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for reforming the system. It has been successful in improving every segment of the society," he added.
Newly elected president of the Nowshera Press Club, Jehanzeb Khattak, General Secretary, Syed Wali Shah, former president, Mushtaq Paracha and Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel spoke at the ceremony arranged in the press club. The function at the ASC Colony was also addressed by Ashfaq Paracha, Chairman, Paracha Welfare Trust, President, Bakhtiar Paracha, senior vice-president Nasir Paracha, District Nazim Liaqat Khattak and others.
