We have been doing really well, Vet has been out 3 times and prescribed horse steroids and balancers for hind gut inflammation. Latest set of blood results have shown an improvement. We are going to continue with this for another month to monitor bloods and behavior. If any deteriation he will have his belly scanned and possibly scoped... this is the plan so not looking for advise on this. My latest conundrum started yesterday afternoon. Firstly, my horses mood has increased, he seems happier in himself and doesn't stand around scowling, he is wonderful to ride, best he has ever been. He is still girthy and isn't keen on being touched. Yesterday he really threw a dirty move at me, He has NEVER done anything like this before... i asked for his front foot to pick and he turned his bum and kicked his back leg. Obviously this is not acceptable! I have got support around me, i have had horsemanship instructors out and i have another coming in a couple of weeks. My question is.... when a horse is poorly how to you cope with the bad behavior? should there be a zero tolerance even though they might be having a bad day? I was not happy with his move yesterday so i backed him out of my space and proceeded to pick his feet, the two back ones he kicked out (softly ) but he kicked out non the less. He wasn't happy at all yesterday afternoon, he had his ears back and just wanted to be left alone. i can only presume he was in pain as this is no longer a daily occurrence. How would you deal with this? and how to you cope with horses that are not themselves due to being unwell?
