Talk to me about balancers

I'm thinking of getting one for one of our horses. Simply because he's on such basic feed, always has been and is now in his later teens so I'm beginning to think he might need a little better care! He's a good doer and not in need of weight, currently a nice weight having lost over winter. 15hh cob x 17/18 years old just coming backInto work after a break. Has ad-Lib soaked hay. A scoop of speedi-beet, 2 scoops of hifi and a mug of linseed split between two feeds. I add a joint supplement and sometimes Naff respirator. He is slightly stiff somedays in the morning when stabled. This wears off very quickly but I thought maybe a veteran balancer might have added joint support? He absolutely needs no extra energy and is prone to excitability/fizziness
