LAHORE: Former chief minister Balochistan Sadar Akhtar Jan Mengal has held Islamabad responsible for the prevailing political chaos in the province, where PML-N backed Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri resigned on Tuesday ahead of a no-confidence move.
Talking to The News, Mengal, the head of Balochistan National Party (BNP), said that for the last four-and-a-half years, the PML-N government had been lending a deaf ear to the woes of the people of Balochistan. He said as the opposition member, he kept highlighting all flaws in government?s policy towards Balochistan including corruption and financial irregularities. But the government remained confined to only Zarghoon Road, while ignoring the population living in the rest of 370,000-quare kilometre area of this province. ?It?s all because of the weaknesses, inefficiency of Centre and the PML-N government that the province is facing this situation,? said the former CM Balochistan.
To a question whether it was a plot to dethrone an elected CM who eventually had to quit office before facing the no-confidence move, Akhtar Mengal said that neither there had been any conspiracy against the Chief Executive of the province nor his removal through the no confidence move was in clash with constitution.
He said democracy means government of the people, for the people and by the people but in Balochistan, no democratic practice was followed in last four years and concentration of power remained in a few hands rather than the people of the province.?Is it democracy to form government on contractual basis for a period of two and a half year or appoint your favourite people on important offices, democracy means to respect the voice of people, were the 2013 general elections held under democratic principles? asked Sardar Akhter Mengal. Till filing of the report, no name was finalised for the next CM of Balochistan after Zehri.
