ISLAMABAD: At last, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Sunday confirmed having proposed marriage to Bushra Maneka, a mother of five, who asked for time to make a final decision.
Imran clarified his position on the hotly-discussed topic of his third marriage through his spokesperson, who issued a statement early Sunday in a bid to cool down the matter, which made headlines after The News broke the story. ?To set the record straight, Mr Khan proposed marriage to Ms Bushra Maneka, but Ms Maneka asked for time to make a final decision after consulting her family, including her children,? the statement pointed out.
The News splashed the story on Saturday, however, Imran and his party chose to remain silent and indifferent to media queries in this context the whole day. Imran?s marriage with Jemima lasted till 2004, whom he married in 1995 while his second wedding was with television anchorperson Reham Khan in January 2015, who was a married woman like Bushra Maneka, but this marriage also could hardly last for 10 months.
?If and when the proposal is accepted by Ms Maneka, for the marriage, Mr Khan will announce it publicly in a proper manner. Till then, we request the media to give the two families, especially the children, their privacy,? the spokesperson said.
The statement said it is unfortunate and regrettable that Umar Cheema, who broke the story, chose to do a conjectural story on Imran Khan?s personal life, which also involved another person, a private lady, who is not in public life.
?It is indeed sad to see this extremely private and sensitive matter be made the subject of an erroneous story leading to all manner of public conjecture. This has put an acceptable burden, especially on the children of Ms Maneka and Mr Khan, who have had to learn such a private and intimate issue from the media,? the spokesperson maintained.Bushra Maneka reportedly is mother of three sons and two daughters. This is also quite interesting and perhaps for the first time that a prominent politician, has his spiritual guide a woman, whom he has now proposed to wed. Surprisingly too, neither Imran?s former spouse Reham nor party rebel MNA Ayesha Gulalai have reacted to this development till the filing of this report.
