LAHORE: The US administration is imposing sanctions on Pakistan to hide its failures in Afghanistan, said Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday at Lahore Press Club after a joint meeting of the leadership of the leading religious schools of thought and non-Muslim representatives, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said all religious schools of thought and non-Muslim communities have rejected the US threats and its decision to put Pakistan on a watch list on pretext of violation of religious freedom, extremism and terrorism.
Muslims and non-Muslim communities in Pakistan enjoy religious freedom. Efforts for promotion of inter-sect harmony and interfaith dialogue are bringing good results in society and the world should not forget sacrifices of Pakistan in eliminating extremism and terrorism, Tahir Ashrafi said.
Accompanied by office-bearers of Pakistan Ulema Council and other leaders, including Maulana Faheem-ul-Hassan, Baghat Lal Khokhar, Maulana Aseed-ur-Rehman Saeed, Bishop Pastor Emanuel Khokhar, Maulana Zubair Zahid and others, Hafiz Tahir said the US has been making efforts to create anarchy and chaos in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.Responding to a query, Hafiz Tahir said a meeting of action committee for Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat (PBUH) will be held next week. The government should make public the report of Raja Zafarul Haq. Responding to another question, Ashrafi said minorities enjoy full rights enshrined in the Constitution.
