ISLAMABAD: Ruling out the possibility of granting an extension to Finance Secretary Shahid Mehmood, who is going to retire tomorrow (Friday), the prime minister is considering different names, including one top bureaucrat Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, for appointment to the powerful seat in the Finance Ministry.
Mr Jehanzeb is currentlyworking in Punjab as Planning and Development Board chairman. ?The appointment of the finance secretary will be done in consultation with the Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif,? said the sources who predict that Shahbaz Sharif will be playing a key role at the Centre after the PML-N's decision to nominate him for the next premier's slot on the occasion of the next general elections.Adviser to PM on Finance Miftah Ismail had talked to Jenanzeb Khan on Tuesday night, but the final decision in this regard would be taken by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi this week. Younas Dagha, incumbent Commerce Secretary, EAD Secretary Arif Ahmed Khan and FBR Chairman Tariq Pasha are also among the list of potential candidates for this slot.
