SUKKUR: The growers? sit-in at the National Highway near Gambat city entered its fourth day on Tuesday; the growers are protesting against the low sugarcane prices set by mill owners.
The growers said that they would continue their sit-in and might resort to violent protests, if their demands were not accepted. Representatives of the demonstrators, including Jamal Mehmood Khuhro and Lal Bakhsh Sial, said that despite the rate fixed by the Sindh High Court, the mill owners were not ready to follow the court?s order.
They said that the growers were passing through worst financial crisis, because the sugar mills owners were not ready to purchase sugarcane on the rates fixed by the Sindh government.
They alleged that the mill owners?victimising the poor growers?were backed by the Sindh government. On Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Muhammad Nawaz Soho, and the mill owners of Ranipur and Khairpur resumed negotiations with representatives of the demonstrators, but the negotiations failed and the growers continued their sit-in.Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf?s representatives Deedar Jatoi and Mobin Jatoi, and Sindh Abadghar Board?s representative Syed Mahmood Nawaz Shah rushed to the sit-in camp of growers, where they supported their protest.
