Tack room renovation

I am fed up of having a damp nasty tack room I can not use in the winter, all my tack gets brought home to the delight of my husband! We are going to renovate it in the summer, put in a false ceiling and insulation but my question is I would like some heating, does anyone know the best type of heating to use in a tack room, I have electric to the barn, or could get a gas fire but worried about leaving them for any length of time in case of fire as I do not live on site.
