Hi everyone,I've had my Section D Cob since a weanling & we've always had a great bond, he's always had attitude & personality with a dash of thug & bolshy cob behaviour thrown in for good measure. Bar his dislike to loading onto a trailer, he's been great, I always handle him firmly but fairly which he respects - he's the type if you give him an inch he'll take a mile. He's now 13 years old, we've always been able to hack out alone fine & I've been able to bring him in & out away from his friends no problems at all. We've been out for hours alone in the past from both big & small yards, but now that's all changed . . .A year & a half ago I moved house to a different area & due to my job involving 12 hour day & night shifts, he's now on a mixture of part & full livery - I've always been DIY with assistance. The first yard we were at for nearly a year & he was fine there with this arrangement, but for reasons I won't go in to we moved. This was a large yard with split mare & gelding turnout out. We're now on a small yard of 9 horses all of which bar mine belong to one person with mixed mare & gelding turnout - he's not bothered by mares so don't see that being the issue. Gradually over the last 6 months or so since we moved his behaviour had deteriorated rapidly to the point now that if I try taking him from view of his mates all hell breaks loose with him pulling off, shouting, slamming me about & generally losing his mind! The people who look after him when I'm working I think let him do as he pleases & they all come in & out as a herd (he has always been led & taught manners) so now I think he's come to thinking that anything but this herd arrangement is unacceptable. I haven't ridden in months now due to the way he reacts away from them slamming me against the wall & throwing himself about to the point its pretty dangerous. Last time I tried hacking he almost bolted off calling for them after just 5 minutes off the yard. He's never had separation issues before now & all I can think is that now he's not got me around so much, he doesn't trust me anymore & therefore wants to be with his friends. The only solution I can think of is to move yards again but closer to home so I can take over more of my stable duties again?Has anyone got any experience in this at all or any other solutions? I'm at my whits end with it & at a loss as to how to help the situation. Thanks for reading the essay!
