ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has categorically rejected as baseless Indian allegations and twists that came 24 hours later about the visit of the wife and mother of Commander Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav, a convicted terrorist and spy who has confessed to his crimes.
?We do not wish to indulge in a meaningless battle of words. Our openness and transparency belies these allegations,? a statement by the Foreign Office said Wednesday.
The statement pointed out that if Indian concerns were serious, guests or the Indian Deputy High Commissioner should have raised them during the visit with the media which was readily available but at a safe distance as requested by India.
?The fact is that Jadhav?s mother publicly thanked Pakistan for the humanitarian gesture. This was recorded by the media. Nothing more needs to be said,? the Foreign Office said.
Earlier, India said Pakistan harassed the spy?s wife and mother during their visit. Among other things, the Indian government accused the Pakistani authorities of refusing to return the shoes of the visiting wife of Jadhav after she turned them over to security for the visit.
Jadhav, a former officer in the Indian navy, was arrested in March 2016 from Baluchistan. His wife and mother were allowed to see him behind a glass window on Monday, eight months after he was sentenced to death.
"The Pakistani press was allowed on multiple occasions to approach family members closely, harass and hector them and hurl false and loaded accusations about (Shri) Jadhav," India said in a statement.
According to media reports, Pakistani FO spokesman said that the shoes have been sent to laboratory for inspection as metal detectors did not clear her shoes while she passed through it.A chip was installed in her shoes and they had been put off, FO spokesman said. It said that she was provided another pair of shoes to wear and all her belongings except shoes had been returned.
