LAHORE: In a sudden development, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif left for Saudi Arabia on a special plane sent by the Saudi government Wednesday evening.
During the visit, he will hold meetings with important Saudi officials and perform Umrah. The Saudi ambassador had a meeting with Shahbaz three days ago, after which he left for the visit, sources say.
Separately, a delegation of China Railway-NORINCO met with the chief minister at the airport. The delegation led by China Railway President Mr Ju promised earliest completion of Orange Line Metro Train project in accordance with Shahbaz?s vision.
Earlier in the day, Minister of State for Religious Affairs Pir Amin-ul-Hasnat and Quran Board Punjab Chairman Maulana Ghulam Muhammad Sialvi called on Shahbaz who said Pakistan needed national unity and cohesion than ever before.
He said the government had laid the foundation of a peaceful, prosperous and developed Pakistan by following the golden principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The role of the religious scholars was very important in promoting tolerance, patience and brotherhood in the society, said the chief minister.
Also on Wednesday, Shahbaz said no other priority more important was more important than public service, adding that the PML-N government had vociferously served the people during the current term.
Talking to elected representatives, he said people knew about the performance of the elements making a hue and cry of so-called change. ?The elements, who have not produced even a single megawatt of electricity in their province, are afraid of the process of development,? he added.
Shahbaz said the government had given particular attention to the development of southern Punjab, completing projects worth billions of rupees on priority basis. ?People are well aware of the fact that who is making claims and who is serving them,? he stressed. He said the conscious people could not be befooled through hollow slogans of change because they knew that change did not come through sit-in and lockdown.
