LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah has said the Christian employees of the LHC are serving the institution to the best of their ability.
He was speaking at a special Christmas cake-cutting ceremony, held at the LHC on Saturday. He said the number of Christian employees working in the institution was around 100 only. He said that it was immaterial for the institution that to which religion they belonged, as they all were Pakistanis and equal staff members. He said Christians were no less Pakistani than anyone else belonging to any other religion. He said he found no difference among all Pakistanis as they all were equal before him.
The chief justice said that construction of the building of the high court like its motifs and columns reflected that perhaps the maker of the building was of the view that the building was a fountain of justice, meant to provide justice without any discrimination. The CJ said he valued and respected all Christian employees irrespective of the fact to which cadre of service they belonged to.
He announced that Christian employees would enjoy winter and summer vacation like other staff of the court. He mentioned former Christian Judge Justice A R Cornelius, saying that a block of the LHC had been named after him.
Earlier, senior puisne judge, Justice Muhammad Yawar Ali, said it was an event to dole out happiness. Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh said the event was all about joy and love.
Bishop of Lahore Dr Alexander John Malik spoke at length about the message of Christmas in terms of love for the fellow beings.
Christian employees presented bouquets to the chief justice and other judges. A Christmas cake was cut and sweets were distributed.LHC Registrar Syed Khurshid Anwar Rizvi and Directorate of District Judiciary Director General Muhammad Akmal Khan were also present.
