LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the Punjab government has been providing funds from its budget for the development and prosperity of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
He was talking to a parliamentary delegation from AJK, comprising ministers and members of the Legislative Assembly, who called on him here on Friday.
The delegation was led by AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan.
Both the leaders strongly condemned the Indian atrocities against unarmed Kashmiri people in occupied Kashmir and violations of the Line of Control.
The chief minister said India must realise that Kashmiri people could not be deprived of their inalienable right to self-determination through brutalities. He said the international community should be apprised of the worst kind of cruelties, committed by the Indian occupation army against unarmed Kashmiris. He said the Pakistan Muslim League-N government was providing sufficient funds for different programmes aimed at providing basic amenities to the people of Azad Kashmir. He said wonderful steps had been taken for development and prosperity of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. There is no example of such steps taken for the welfare of the AJK people in the 70-year history of the country, he added.
Also, the AJK students are benefiting from the educational schemes of the Punjab government, along with students from other provinces.
The CM vowed that Punjab would continue lending a helping hand for the betterment of the AJK people in future as well.
The development of AJK is, in fact, the progress of Pakistan and we all have to complete this journey of development collectively, he added. The CM pledged to solve the problems of the refugees, settled in the Punjab province.On the occasion, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif had set new records of public welfare and his province had become an example of development due to his hard work and vision. The speed and work quality of Shahbaz Sharif is an example of its own and the people of other provinces are appreciative of the exemplary role, being played by him for the development of Punjab. The provincial government has given the proof of its love for the Kashmiri people by providing resources for the development of AJK, he added.
