ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has decided to appoint Rana Afzal as minister of state for finance and he will be sworn in by next week.
At this critical juncture when economy is standing at crossroads and could slide into crisis mode with policy of inactions in months ahead, the government has taken decision to fill this post because immediate return of Ishaq Dar does not seem possible at least for coming few months.
?PM Abbasi has held a meeting with PML-N President Nawaz Sharif in which the decision has been taken to appoint Rana Afzal as minister of state for finance? said the official sources. His notification is expected to be issued anytime but he will take oath after holidays probably on December 26 or December 27, 2017. There was growing criticism within and outside Parliament for dillydallying tactics of the government for not appointing anyone at the slot of the Finance Ministry.Efforts were made to find out someone for the slot of advisor to PM on finance but it could not be done, so finally the government decided to appoint Rana Afzal to fill this slot. ?In principle, the government has taken decision to this effect,? said one top official of Finance Division and added that Rana Afzal would be given charge of the Finance Ministry only.
