KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday directed National Accountability Bureau to complete within two months the investigation into the misuse and sale of aviation fuel to private industries.
Hearing petition of Zeeshan Karimi, a chief executive officer of a private aviation lubricant company, seeking return of his passport, Supreme Court?s two member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed observed NAB was not established for dragging inquiries for several years.
The NAB counsel submitted that NAB deals with white collar crimes and some cases takes time to complete the inquiry. He submitted that NAB is probing the complaint that the lower proportionate of aviation fuel was supplied to defence authorities while major portion was sold to private individuals and industries causing loss of Rs.2.37 billion to the national exchequer.
The NAB counsel sought two month's time to complete the investigation and filing of the reference. The court expressed concern over supply of fuel to armed forces through contractors instead of directly from the oil companies.The court granted two months time for completion of the investigation and filing of the reference against the accused. The court also directed NAB to return the passport of the petitioner.
