ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Thursday urged the Trump administration to revisit decision on recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in order to check its potentially grave repercussions from spilling over to the region and beyond.
The status of Jerusalem ? home to sites holy to Muslims, Jews and Christians ? is one of the biggest obstacles to reaching a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
The timely advice came at a time when Hamas urged Palestinians on Thursday to abandon peace efforts and launch a new uprising against Israel.
Media reports spoke of Israeli military reinforcing troops in the occupied West Bank, deploying several new army battalions and putting other forces on the standby, describing the measures as part of its ?readiness for possible developments?. ?It is deeply regrettable that pleas from states across the globe not to alter the legal and historical status of Al-Quds Al-Sharif have been ignored, more out of choice than necessity,? Foreign Office spokesman said in a statement.
He said Pakistan had joined the international community in expressing its strong opposition to the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the so-called capital of Israel and the plan to relocate its embassy there.
Trump?s disastrous policy sees world capitals uniting against one man; the last such unity against an individual was seen against Hitler which resulted in world wars.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as was expected, reacting to Washington?s benevolence said, ?President Trump has immortalized himself in the chronicles of our capital?.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/lwZ2Mo92BT4
