When Samsung released its 256GB storage chip (https://www.engadget.com/2016/02/25/samsung-is-building-256gb-memory-chips-for-smartphones/), we were impressed (http://mashable.com/2016/02/26/samsung-256gb-flash-memory/).*

Today, Samsung has doubled down on that. Literally. The Korean company announced it's begun production of a 512GB chip, the most powerful chip the industry has ever seen, reports BusinessWire (http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20171204006182/en/Samsung-Starts-Producing-512-Gigabyte-Universal-Flash-Storage).*

This chip will give upcoming flagship Samsung phones unparalleled storage capacity. They'll be able to store 130 10-minute 4K video clips. (A 64GB chip could store only 13.)

Phones with the new chip will feature increased speed and performance as well. A full, 5GB HD video can be transferred from 512GB chip to a solid-state hard drive in about six seconds, Samsung says, which is over eight times faster than it takes to transfer one from a typical microSD card. And the phones will be advanced enough to handle multiple demanding operations at once, such as downloading a video while also searching through big files in dual-app mode.* Read more...
