ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) here on Wednesday told Accountability Court (AC) that they pasted on the notice board and Ishaq Dar?s residence proclamation notices against Dar directing him to surrender before the court till December 4.
The notice says the accused did not appear before the court despite non-bailable arrest warrants. Dar has been directed to appear within 10 days or he will be declared proclaimed offender.
Dar's personal guarantor Ali Ahmed Qudoosi said that Dar may come back to Pakistan within a month.
The AC on November 21 declared Dar an absconder and directed his guarantors to ensure presence of the accused before the court or his Rs5 millions surety bonds will be confiscated. During Wednesday?s proceedings, the guarantor sought some time to produce the accused at which court adjourned hearing till December 4.
A legal counsel for Dar, Qusain Faisal Mufti advocate told The News that the guarantor filed an application where it was said that AC through its orders dated November 9 and 14 had directed NAB authorities to attest medical certificates of Dar, which they have not done yet. A prosecutor told the court that they have written letters to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking them to verify medical reports but their response is still awaited.
Mufti expressed astonishment that when court by itself started verification of the medical certificates, how it could initiate proclamation process. ?Further, we had requested the court to appoint a pleader in the absence of the accused but court did not accept our request. We don't want to halt the court proceedings which is why we requested for appointment of the pleader,? Mufti also said.
Dar's guarantor here Wednesday told the court that Dar is ill and taking treatment in United Kingdom. He said that he has already applied for a visa and in couple of days, he will travel to London. Ali Ahmed Qadoosi said that Dar is undergoing cardiac treatment and consultant cardiologist has placed two stents in his heart arteries. Doctors also conducted Dar?s angiography and the reports are awaited. It is to mention here that AC already ordered for freezing Dar's moveable and immoveable assets.
Ishaq Dar is an accused in a corruption references by the title of Assets & Funds Beyond Known Sources of Income. In the reference NAB has alleged that the accused Dar has acquired assets and pecuniary interests/resources in his own name and/or in the name of his dependants of an approximate amount of Rs831.678 million (approx).
