ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khan Abbasi has rejected yet another summary seeking approval for appointment of formal managing director of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) that has been working under ad hoc arrangement for the last four and a half years.
Currently, the state-owned company is being run by the acting Managing Director Zahid Mir whose tenure is to expire in March next year 2018.
Prime Minister Shaid Khaqan Abbasi has asked the Petroleum Division to re-initiate the process for appointing the managing director.
The Division has issued directions for issuance of an advertisement detailing the terms and conditions.
For the first time, it has been made mandatory for the candidate that he/she must be the chief executive or managing director of an E&P company having $100 million annual turnover.
The candidates will be bound to submit their applications within 15 days and each of them must have the experience of running a company with the annual turnover of $100 million.
This was mentioned in a letter written by Section Officer Rab Nawaz Ahmad of Petroleum Division (Gas) on November 10, 2017 to Secretary OGDCL Ahmad Hayat Lak. A copy of the letter is exclusively available with The News.
?Yes, we have got directions from the Power Division with the condition that the candidates must have the experience of running an E&P company with $100 million annual turnover.
The directions have been sent to our HR department for assessment,? Chairman OGDCL Zahid Muzaffar told The News.
To a question, he said: ?Such condition has never been part of the process to hire a candidate for such an important slot; however, we have no option but to accept the government directions.?
The government, according to the top official, earlier twice attempted to appoint a regular managing director but failed.
In September last year, the 7-member committee of the board of directors of OGDCL had shortlisted four candidates for the slot after interview and a summary, comprising the successful candidates, was sent to the Petroleum Division.
The summary included the names of acting MD Zahid Mir, Nadeem Bajwa and Muhammad Asim, but it was not approved by the Decision and the acting MD was asked to continue.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/su9LOeo192k
