LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal has made it clear to officials that the Bureau hasn?t been established to victimise any individual, any party or any province, but to end corruption and corrupt practices from the country.
While chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore on Monday, the NAB chairman was given a detailed briefing on corruption cases registered against the Sharif family, Chaudhrys of Gujrat, and other important cases.
Addressing the NAB Lahore officers/officials during his maiden visit to Lahore, he said that across-the-board accountability and zero tolerance policy towards the corrupt elements would remain his top priority.
The chairman said everybody would see a change in the Bureau?s work and justice would be seen to be done in every case. Out of 179 mega corruption cases, he said 96 were pending with accountability courts, 25 each are pending at inquiry and investigation stages, respectively. He said 33 cases out of 179 mega corruption cases had been concluded so far.
?I have sought reports from all the bureaus within three months about other pending mega corruption cases,? the chairman said. Lauding the Lahore Bureau?s performance, he said only a single mega corruption case was pending with the bureau, which shows its working.
?I have reviewed the progress of NAB Headquarters and would now review the progress of all the bureaus,? he said. He also directed all investigators and prosecutors of NAB to improve their working and submit cases in courts with hard facts and after fulfilling all legal formalities.
Everybody?s self respect would be protected as I wouldn?t tolerate anymore thana culture in NAB, the chairman said, adding, ?We will also protect as per law every whistleblower.? The entire nation is looking towards NAB, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said.
Moreover, the NAB chairman said violators of law, incompetent and corrupt officers wouldn?t find any place in NAB. He said he would personally oversee the matters of seniority, appointment and promotion of NAB officers as justice would be meted out to everyone in the Bureau. ?If we work hard, diligently and honestly, applying all the modern techniques and methods, there is no way we can?t control corruption in our country,? he opined.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/com/cwEr/~4/zUVdxFeRHJ8
