During Twitter's first earnings call (http://mashable.com/2014/02/05/twitter-q4-earnings/?utm_campaign=&utm_context=textlink&utm_medium=rss&utm_source=) as a public company in early February CEO Dick Costolo emphasized that his goal is "to reach every person on the planet."
"In 2014," he added, "we're focused on building a Twitter that is truly accessible and valuable to everyone." What better way to do that than by borrowing some of the look and feel from the social network that's come closest to that goal: Facebook

Twitter unveiled a new design for profile pages on Tuesday with more prominent lead images and the option to choose a top tweet to display.
