Israel confirms Gaza air strikes

Jerusalem, April 4 (IANS) Israeli jets struck targets in the Gaza Strip overnight Thursday after Palestinian militants renewed rocket fire into southern Israel, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said in a statement Friday. Retaliatory strikes Thursday targeted what the military called "terror sites" -- four in **rthern Gaza and one in central Gaza, Xinhua reported citing the IDF statement, adding that direct hits were confirmed. "Civilians in southern Israel were forced to begin this month with an unacceptable barrage of rockets. Hamas has a responsibility to cease and prevent acts of aggression emanating from Gaza," Peter Lerner, an IDF spokesman, said in the statement.
