Addressing the parliamentary party meeting of the PTI, Imran Khan said they would **t allow the country to fall into the grip of corruption again. He emphasised that the Supreme Court’s judgement of disqualification of Nawaz Sharif and his subsequent resignation were a victory achieved through sustained hard work and patience.
Meanwhile, the PTI chief alleged that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who has been **minated by Nawaz Sharif as interim premier, was involved in $2 billion LNG scam.
In messages on Twitter, Imran charged that Nawaz Sharif could only trust corrupt companions and the latest was Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, involved in $2 billion LNG scam.
“Shameful how Nawaz Sharif playing victim card with multiple references against him sent to NAB and him being found guilty of lying, forging, perjury, etc. He is insulting the nation’s intelligence and making mockery of democracy by **minating his brother for PM against whom SC has directed reference be filed,” he wrote.
About the Sunday’s thanksgiving event here, Imran wrote, “tomorrow when record crowds come to our jalsa to thank Allah, Nawaz Sharif will realise nation is politically aware and are **t fooled by his allies”.
At the parliamentary party meeting, the PTI leadership expressed reservations over the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) decision to **minate incumbent Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif as candidate to become the prime minister. "When Shahbaz becomes prime minister, a reference against him in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will be looked into, what message would it convey to the country and the international community," the PTI vice chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi wondered during media talk after the party meeting.
Qureshi also questioned the tradition of dynastic politics and asked why only a member of the Sharif family was being **minated for the top ****** and was there ** other individual in the ranks of the PML-N suitable e**ugh for the coveted post.
"Have our political parties **t reached the level of maturity that we can move past our families when it comes to **minating individuals for high posts," he emphasised.
The PTI leader said it would entail problems if Shahbaz is elected as prime minister. “They have so many party members, is there ** one else qualified for the position?" he said. Shah Mehmood said the investigation report submitted after the Model Town tragedy should also be made public by Shahbaz if he were to become the prime minister as he was the chief minister at the time of tragedy.
The parliamentary party meeting decided to propose the name of Awami Muslim League (AML) president Sheikh Rasheed as opposition’s candidate for the post of prime minister during their consultations with the opposition parties.
The meeting decided to field Dr Yasmeen Rashid as PTI's candidate to contest the NA-120 seat, Lahore, previously held by Nawaz Sharif.
"During our meeting today, we discussed that NA-120 **w stands vacated and we decided to **minate Dr Yasmeen Rashid as our candidate to contest for the seat in by-election," Shah Mehmood said. He strongly dispelled the impression of any conspiracy against the prime minister and democracy in Pakistan. He emphasised that democracy had been strengthened after the Supreme Court judgement in the Panama case and it was **t an international conspiracy as some PML-N leaders had claimed. He said the PTI has always stood for the Constitution, democracy and reforms, like how to ensure transparent election.
"Democracy has been strengthened following the verdict. It is **t a conspiracy against democracy. From the start, we have been with the Constitution and democracy," he explained.
Qureshi contended that the conspiracy theory being peddled by PML-N had ** truth in it, as even Beijing and Washington had termed the apex court judgement as an internal matter and expressed ** reservations about it.
About the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's an**uncement that they would put forth a candidate for premiership, he said that it would have been better if the PPP had reached out to opposition parties before making the call. He revealed that Leader of Opposition Khursheed Shah had approached Friday and invited the PTI to discuss future course of action in the post-Nawaz Sharif scene.
"We discussed and said the PPP should have taken all opposition parties in confidence before an**uncing that they will field their own candidate for the slot of the prime minister," he **ted. Qureshi said all opposition parties would be consulted in order to evolve consensus on a candidate,” Qureshi said.
He said the meeting paid tributes to the apex court judges and the JIT members for their role in the Panama Papers case.
Referring to PTI's an**uncement for a public rally today (Sunday), Qureshi invited all the party workers and public to the event and said Imran Khan will an**unce the future line of action and take the people in confidence regarding PTI’s vision for Pakistan’s future.
