ISLAMABAD: The issue of mega scam of Grand Hyatt Hotel echoed in the sub-committee of Public Accounts Committee as the PML-N member Mian Abdul Manan claimed that the Panama investigations were launched to divert the attention from mega scam of Grand Hyatt Hotel in which names of big influential people were involved.

The meeting of the sub-committee was held with the chair of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed in which the audit paras relating to the Capital Development and Administration Division for the year 2009-10 were examined.

During the proceedings, the issue of scam of Grand Hyatt Hotel also echoed when the PML-N member Mian Abdul Manan said that politicians were defamed but if the verdict of the high court was examined, real motives would be k**wn. “PTI chief Imran Khan had also a flat in the Grand Hyatt Hotel and he even did **t mention it in his tax statement and details,” he said.

Manan said the drama of the Panama was brought up just to keep the attention of the people from mega scam of Grand Hyatt Hotel of Islamabad. The FIA officials told the sub-committee that the investigations of the mega scam has been completed.

Secretary of the Capital Administration and Development Division told the committee that FIR of this scam has been registered in which names of the ex-chairman CDA Kamran Lashari and other members of the CDA board, officials and Project In-charge were also included. The audit officials questioned what will be the future of a person who fled with Rs5 billion.

The secretary of the Capital Administration and Development Division replied that the victims were asked to come up with claims. Manan remarked many gentlemen were victims of this mega scam who do **t want to tell their source of income.

The sub-committee was told that a senior official of the Capital Development Authority who was found guilty in a departmental inquiry committeefor allotting the agro-farm on fake claims was being given promotion as a member in the CDA.

The audit officials told the committee that CDA has allotted five agro-farms on fake claims. The CDA officials replied that the CDA has canceled the allotment of those agro-farms which were allotted on fake claims but out of these three farms were restored by influential persons.

Manan remarked that if the CDA officials save their colleague and do **t provide any record to the courts, then courts have ** other option but to give a clean chit. Mushahid Hussain Sayed remarked that these agro-farms were allotted on fake claims and those who made the allotment were given promotion and those who purchased it were being targeted.

The effected person of agro-farm told the committee that PAC in 2014 was asked to cancel the allotment of 19 agro-farms and his plot was **t included in the list of those 19 plots but **w in 2017 on the basis of decision of 2014, his plot was being canceled. The sub-committee sought report of status of 19 plots and deferred this issue till the outcome of decision in the courts of law.

The issue of a**ther mega scam of development of Sectors I/16 and I/17 also came under discussion and the audit officials told the committee that market price of the land was Rs250,000 per kanal but the CDA purchased the land at Rs850,000 per kanal. “Under the law, the compensation was given to small land owners,” the audit officials told the committee.

Manan remarked that the CDA has made full payment of over Rs6 billion to some land owners. The sub-committee referred the matter to NAB for investigation while directing the CDA to provide all the record to NAB by July 15 and asked the NAB to complete the inquiry and submit the report to the committee within 6o days.

The audit officials asked the sub-committee to direct the Building Control Department of the CDA to submit report on building control in E-11 Sector. The CDA officials told the committee that the CDA had stopped people from purchasing plot, shops or flats in E-11 sector. “The CDA has also stopped people from purchasing any property in Ghouri Town and sealed ******s of administration of Ghauri Town,” the CDA officials told the committee. Manan questioned that whether the CDA has **w waken up and what about those who already have invested there.
