ISLAMABAD: The government has reduced petrol and diesel prices by Rs1.5 per litre each for the month of July 2017, while the prices of Kerosene and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) have been kept unchanged till midnight of July 31. The decision will be effective from July 1 (today).
After the reduction, the new price of MS 92 RON petrol will be Rs71.30/litre and diesel Rs79.90 a litre. In June, the prices of petrol and diesel were Rs72.80 and Rs81.40 per litre. Petrol is widely used in cars and motorcycles owned by middle class commuters and High-Speed Diesel (HSD) mostly used in mass transportation and agriculture. As the prices of Kerosene and LDO have been kept unchanged, so their price will stay at Rs44/litre each.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, an**uncing a reduction in prices on Friday, stated that in line with the PM ’s instructions to provide maximum relief to the common man, and keeping in view that Kerosene and LDO is used by the low income segments of country’s population, it has been decided to maintain the prices of Kerosene and LDO at the current level till July 31, 2017. He said this decision has been taken also keeping in view the fact that Kerosene caters to the energy needs of the poor.
It is worth mentioning that Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources had recommended a cut of Rs3.33 per litre in the prices of petrol and Rs2.73 per litre reduction in the prices of HSD. Interestingly, it also recommended an increase of Rs10.95/litre in price of Kerosene and Rs6.82/litre in the price of LDO.
