Koala and dog stuck down an abandoned mineshaft get rescued

It might sound like a tired trope from a '70s television show, but somehow this koala and dog got trapped at the bottom of an abandoned mineshaft.
Yes, these things still really do happen. The mine, located in Ipswich, Australia, was attended to by firefighters and the RSPCA on Monday after yelps from the dog were heard.

Lance Mullins from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service told 9 News (http://beta.9news.com.au/national/2017/06/26/18/54/dog-and-koala-rescued-from-abandoned-queensland-mine-shaft) the rescue was "an unusual one," and that staff deemed it was too unsafe to send anyone down the hole.
Rescuers had to use large animal bag and ropes to fetch the pair out. The dog made it out okay —taken straight to the vet with a slight limp — but RSPCA staff had trouble fetching the koala, who they thought was blind. Read more...
