LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said tremendous work has been done during the last four years under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to resolve the energy crisis.

Due to efforts of the PM, the energy crisis is about to end. As much as $36 billion investment had been made in different energy projects under the China-Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor (CPEC), he added.

During the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Pakistan in April 2015, different energy projects were signed. Out of these projects, some projects have been completed, while the rest of them are about to be completed soon.

The promise which Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made with the nation to end load-shedding in 2018, is about to be fulfilled. He was addressing a gathering of senior PML-N workers and **tables of the walled city, here on Monday.

Shahbaz Sharif said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif told a meeting in May 2015 that in addition to CPEC related initiatives, energy projects should also be established from our own resources. This proposal was given in a meeting which was held with Prime Minister in the chair to ponder over the overcoming of energy crisis after the visit of Chinese President to Pakistan.

The meeting was largely attended by Ministers of concerned departments, secretaries and other high officials. All the participants vigorously opposed my proposal of establishing energy projects from own resources, but the credit goes to Nawaz Sharif who bravely decided according to his vision and accorded approval to the proposal of setting up energy projects from own resources. As a result, it was decided to set up 3,600megawatt gas-based electricity producing plants. The 1200 megawatt Bhikki power plant has been inaugurated; while the gas power projects in Balloki and Haveli Bahadur Shah are near to completion.

He added that Pakistani nation would never forget the great benefaction of China. By the grace of Allah Almighty, Chinese investment has helped to overcome the energy crisis.

The Chief Minister lamented that due to the sit-ins of “U-turn Khan” ten precious months of the nation have been wasted; Chinese investors also left the country during the sit-ins and it was feared that recurrence of any such incident may hamper the CPEC projects, which could derail the country, because these conspiracies are remote-controlled. Keeping this thing in view and according approval to my proposal, the Prime Minister decided to set up 3600 megawatt gas power plants from our own resources and let it k**wn that Shahbaz Sharif is correct. He said that he had a feeling as if he had committed a hei**us crime when all the participants of the meeting vigorously opposed his proposal of setting up of energy projects from own resources.

“However, I told them that it was Prime Minister who had made a commitment to the nation to overcome load-shedding and, therefore, he would be answerable to the nation. When the nation would question the Prime Minister, then the opponents of this proposal would be seen **where around and the nation would enquire from the Prime Minister that where is the electricity?”

Shahbaz Sharif said that Prime Minister approved his proposal of setting up energy projects from own resources and maintained that it was a gesture of his love to the nation as well as a symbol of political wisdom. Work on these 3600 megawatt gas power plants is in progress day and night and the decision of the Prime Minister to set up electricity generation projects from own resources has been proved very beneficial. The time has come to get away the darkness of load-shedding. God forbids, has the energy projects **t been set up then, I would have asked the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to jointly resign, because we could **t produce electricity according to our promise. But thanks to Allah Almighty, load-shedding has sufficiently been decreased due to energy projects, as many projects are going to be completed in the coming months.

The PM has fulfilled his promise of overcoming the energy crisis made with 20 crore people of Pakistan. He further said that the gesture of Prime Minister is like an order for him and it is his habit to do tomorrow’s work, today.

He said that the wise decision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to set up 3600 gas power projects would maintain the trust of the PML-N.
