Sindh CM accuses Centre of **t fulfilling its promises
KARACHI/PESHAWAR: Protesters in various parts of the country took to the streets, attacked distribution companies ******s and shouted slogans against the government and Wapda authorities against an**unced and unan**unced power outages in the sizzling summer season.
People, many of them fasting, set tyres ablaze in Karachi, Peshawar and other cities on Tuesday after power cuts disrupted Sehri during the holy month of Ramazan.
On Monday, two protesters in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were shot dead by the law-enforcers. In Karachi, some protesters tried to attack and set fire to an ****** of K-Electric, said police ******r Khadim Ali.
A transmission line had tripped due to high humidity, K-Electric said on social network Twitter, adding that loadshedding would persist for two to three weeks more. It is **w back to eight to 10 hours a day in some parts of Karachi.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah blamed the federal government for the outages. "This is the atrocity the federal government is doing with us," Shah told reporters in Karachi. Around 13 districts of Sindh again witnessed power outages after the 500kV transmission line in Jamshoro tripped. As a result, at least 76 grid stations of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) became **n-functional. The power outages were witnessed in Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Mirpur Khas, Thatta and Sajawal.
These areas plunged into darkness and people faced severe problems during the Sehr time. In Mirpurkhas, protesters set a complaint ****** on fire. About Hesco and Sesco, the chief minister said both the companies have completely failed to serve the people of rural Sindh. About three years ago, the Sindh government had offered to take over both the companies [Hesco and Sesco] for their smooth, efficient and effective performance, but the federal government refused.
Today, they are in a shambles and they could **t be made efficient even if the Sindh government is allowed to take over, he lamented. “I k**w the people of rural Sindh are leading a very miserable life by facing 21-hour-long loadshedding,” he said and urged the federal government to have pity on the people of Sindh and improve its system.
The chief minister called his meetings with federal water & power minister, prime minister and also talked about his letters he wrote to them against reduction in loadshedding and improvement in the supply system.
Murad Ali Shah said people in urban and rural areas are suffering from up to 21 hours' loadshedding daily. He accused the federal government of **t fulfilling its promises. Among the most affected areas in Karachi were Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, Khokhrapar, Liaquatabad, Federal B Area, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Orangi Town, etc.
Loadshedding has also led to water scarcity in the metropolis as the fast observing faithful have to wander through the streets in search of water. K-Electric spokesperson Syed Fakhar Ahmed told a private TV channel that an Extra High Tension (EHT) line tripped due to extraordinary levels of humidity in Karachi and its outskirts.
He said the high amount of moisture in the air coupled with low wind factor led to drop in transmission capacity. He said all strategic installations including key hospitals, airport, Dhabeji and Pipri pumping stations, were provided with uninterrupted power supply.
Former interior minister Rehman Malik said that prolonged loadshedding during the holy month of Ramazan was shameful. Talking to the media outside the Parliament House on Tuesday, he said during Ramazan the government should reduce supply for the industrial sector and provide electricity to domestic consumers as per their demand to provide relief to the people.
