Says people gave him mandate to rule; country to become Asian Tiger; inspects Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3) being completed five months ahead of schedule

NANKANA SAHIB: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said people had given the PML-N the mandate to govern, adding that the country was witnessing what had never happened before.

He lashed out at the opposition, saying his government would continue marching forward on the path of progress and prosperity by undertaking huge development projects.

"We were neither afraid of them in the past **r would be frightened in the future. The people of Pakistan **w look forward to us and **t towards them, as their future is with us,” the prime minister remarked.

He invited the opposition to visit the network of roads and motorways and asked them to at least ack**wledge the good work being done by the government. Criticism on anything was easy, but it required guts to admit the good work and its benefits for the masses, the prime minister added.

Addressing a gathering after inspecting the under-construction Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), Nawaz Sharif said the opposition was creating hurdles in the way of progress through sit-ins.

The prime minister said the opposition did **t want progress and prosperity. “They want that the poor should remain poor and their children do **t get education,” he said, adding that the people had stopped paying attention to the negative politics of the opposition.

The prime minister **ted that projects were currently completed in two years against the previous practice of 10 to 20 years, which was a positive sign and a revolutionary step. He rued the fact that ** **teworthy project was launched from 1999 to 2013.

He said thousands people were getting livelihood by working on the ongoing projects while the opposition was trying to snatch the bread from them through their negative politics. He said Pakistan would become the Asian Tiger with the completion of different ongoing projects, which were going to connect the country with Central Asia.

The prime minister talked about the ongoing infrastructure and energy projects and said they would change the fate of the country. He recalled that when the PML-N came into power, terrorism was rife in the country but that his government started the operation which broke the backbone of terrorists.

Karachi was bustling again and the world was praising the status of Pakistan’s eco**my, he said, adding that the future of youth was bright. Earlier, the prime minister was informed that the M-3 would be completed almost five months ahead of schedule.

NHA Chairman Shahid Ashraf Tarar said the 230-km-long Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway had been divided into four parts and being constructed by two contractors through a joint venture of M/s China Railway 20 Group and M/s ZKB at a cost of Rs148.654 billion.

Tarar said that eight interchanges, eight bridges over major roads, 35 bridges over canals and six underpasses had been constructed. He said the work on 207-km section had been completed and the remaining part was being completed at a fast pace. The project launched in February 2016 would be completed in March 2018 instead of the initial deadline of August 2018.
