The invitation has been extended to him by King Salman bin Abdul Aziz and it will also provide an opportunity to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to have maiden meeting with US President Donald Trump, who will also be present in the summit since he floated the idea of the gathering.
Saudi King’s invitation was handed over to the prime minister by Dr Awwad Bin Saleh Al-Awwad, Minister for Information & Culture of the Kingdom, on Tuesday when he called on the prime minister at the Prime Minister's House. Dr Awwad Bin Saleh Al-Awwad, the special envoy of Saudi king, while extending the invitation conveyed the best wishes and greetings from King Salman bin Abdul Aziz.
The diplomatic sources told The News that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be among the most sought-after Muslim world leaders in the summit. President Trump would like to have interaction with him since the prime minister would have returned from China a day earlier after attending One Belt One Road (OBOR) international forum commencing in Beijing on 12th of this month where 22 world leaders would be in attendance.
The summit will focus on elimination of extremism and terrorism. President Trump will visit Israel and the Vatican after attending the summit in the same trip. It would be his first foreign trip after assuming the ******. President Trump would try to improve his relations with the Muslim world through the summit. Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan, who is also Chairman Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), heads of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and some leaders of the Muslim states would also be invited for the summit. King Salman is also dis*****ing his special emissaries for the purpose as he sent his first envoy to Pakistan for extending the invitation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the sources pointed out.
Prime Minister Nawaz will visit Saudi Arabia for the first time after formal establishment of the command of 41-Muslim countries alliance force last month. The command has been assumed by former army chief General (retd) Raheel Sharif. It is expected that he would also brief the visiting premier about the working of his force. Nawaz Sharif will take lead over his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in meeting the new US president. He may invite the US President to visit Pakistan with whom he had telephonic conversation before the former’s assuming the ******, the sources said.
