ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has declared the Banigala residence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan as illegal.

In pursuance of the Supreme Court directives, the authority has furnished a report with the apex court, stating that a survey conducted in Banigala had found that 122 buildings in the area, which were either under construction or competed, had been constructed illegally.

The report said as per ICT Zoning Regulation all the buildings, including the PTI chief’s residence, were unauthorized and required to be demolished. On April 24, the chief justice while heading a three-member bench hearing a suo moto case taken on a complaint filed by Imran Khan against the municipal lawlessness in Banigala, had directed the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Capital Development Authority (CDA) to keep vigilance and ensure prohibition of tree cutting, encroachments and unauthorized construction.

The court had also asked the CDA and ICT to submit a report on disposal of sewage and waste besides submitting a joint report after survey near Rawal Dam regarding the issues on the next date of hearing.

The CDA report further stated that the buildings constructed either in Zone 3 or 4 were in violation of the ICT Zoning Regulation, 1992 and therefore conservancy services, including garbage collection and sanitary/sewerage system, could **t be provided by the CDA as per law.

“The occupants are **t taking measures on their own to prevent refuse and garbage, causing pollution, contamination and environmental hazards,” the report said.

The court was informed that the civic body had deployed vigilance teams to ensure that ** tree cutting was carried out in areas falling in the territorial limits of Botanical Garden and National Park area in Bani Gala.

The court was further informed that Section 144 had been imposed on illegal cutting of trees and in this regard FIRs had been lodged under Section 188 of PPC and 19 persons arrested.

It is pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court bench hearing PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi’s petitions, seeking disqualification of Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen for the alleged tax evasion, on Tuesday asked Imran Khan to file his affidavit in response to the Civil Miscellaneous Application submitted to the court the other day by Hanif Abbasi.

The CMA had requested provision of a statement by Jemima's bank in the United Kingdom and the remittance confirmed by her. The bank details of Imran and Rashid Ali have also been sought. The details of Imran's income and wealth taxes of 2001-2005 have also been demanded.
