PESHAWAR: In a jolt to the fragile peace of the terror-devastated provincial capital, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) went off in Shamshatoo and Khattako Pul areas early Monday, injuring two constables and damaging the main gate of a primary school, officials said. They added that the third explosive was defused before it could target a police party.
Also, the police have recovered a cache of mortar shells, rockets and anti-aircraft rounds in an action in the limits of the Khazana Police Station. The new week started with an IED blast damaging the main gate and the boundary wall of a girls’ school in Garhi Baghbanana near Shamshatoo refugee camp at around 4:40am. ** casualty was reported as the explosives went off a couple of hours before the arrival of students.
“As the police and experts of the bomb disposal unit (BDU) arrived at the spot, they detected a**ther IED planted near the car of a police ******r. The explosives, however, did **t go off due to jammers in the official car,” Capital City Police ******r (CCPO) Mohammad Tahir told The News.
The attackers had planted a third IED near Khattako Pul to target a police party coming to the site of the blast. As a vehicle of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was passing through the spot, the IED went off, injuring two constables. They were taken to the Lady Reading Hospital. The damage was **t much due to the armoured platting of the car that came under attack.
This was after a long time that three IEDs were planted to target police and a school in any area of the provincial capital. According to investigators, the target in the blasts was the police force as the planners knew that the police would arrive soon after the first blast targeting the school.
